This
is Karen with my baby, a 1977 PEUGEOT 504 L. This basic 504
model saw it's introduction in April 1973 and made up to 30% of
all 504 sales here in Germany. |

I
spotted my metallic green 504 L first in autumn 1993 on a supermarket
parking lot. It was love at first sight. After talking to it's Lady owner
and convincing her to sell, I bought it two weeks later for a reasonable
price...
The car was in a fair, original condition and had been in my home area
all his life. It was sold through a PEUGEOT dealership on March 14th 1978
to his 1st owner who was then already 75 years old. The 1st owner's son
told me, that his father really loved the 504. He always kept the car
clean and garaged, and never drove it during the winter time if the roads
were salted. He has fond memories of driving his dad in his 504 to Poland
for vacation. However, while his father was on another trip to Spain,
using the bus this time, the 504 was stolen from the locked garage, crashed
into a concrete post, and left alone. His dad had left the keys in the
car...
The old man was so angry and disappointed, that he sold the car to one
of the mechanics from the very same PEUGEOT dealer which sold the car
originally. The poor old man got ill over his anger and selling the 504,
and died soon afterwards... Sad story.
Meanwhile, the mechanic rustproofed the car (thank you so much), only
to put it up for sale after three months.
The third owner, who lived nearby, sold the car eventually to a family,
from which I acquired it. I used it daily for going to university, and
carried out a typical rolling restoration. But it soon became a pampered
classic, being driven only on sunny days...

A
work of art... Obviously, Italy's famous Pininfarina did a great job designing
the successor of the famous 404. Despite the almost avantgardistic appearance,
more than three million 504s were sold. |

Eagle-eyed
504 fans might note that grill and overriders are incorrect for an '77
L model. Factory-fitted should be an all-plastic grill with bigger rips... |

...while
front and rear bumpers shouldn't have those overriders of GL and TI models.
Most modifications were done by previous owners, including fitting a towbar.
Oh, doesn't this car look gorgeous?! |

But
you can't just look at the PEUGEOT to fully appreciate it. You also have
to drive it! The smooth ride and good handling of a 504 (like any PEUGEOT)
are legendary |
This
is the interior, with an 1977 sales brochure. Note the original accessory
radio console (real wood!), now fitted with a period Blaupunkt Coburg
radio as featured in a Peugeot accessory brochure. If anyone has original
floor mats for sale, you've just sold them... |
